Some of you may be wondering how to dole out your rations. Hopefully you did some careful math before stocking your shelter weeks ago and you’ve gathered at least 3-6 months worth of survival rations.
But it can be hard to know how much to eat per day. Do you starve yourself, settling in for the long haul? Or do you eat freely, to keep up your strength?
Your body needs energy to survive. Your heart is pumping, your brain is always on (you managed to ignore the government and get yourself a shelter, after all!), and your body needs to maintain its temperature. Caloric requirements vary based on gender and age, but 1500 is a bare minimum to keep your body and mind functioning.
As tempting as it may be, it is also important not to waste any ammunition in these uncertain times. Warning shots in particular are a waste of resources. If you must shoot your gun, it should be to kill.
I find that a well-placed sign to warn intruders that you won’t hesitate to shoot is as effective as warning shots themselves. That way, any intruders into your property are either A) infected (shoot them dead, folks), B) animals (shoot them too, they may be infected) or C) criminals who were undeterred by your warning (you guessed it: shoot em).
After a month or two, we will have a better idea of how much longer this disaster will last and we can reassess our stockpile of food and supplies at that time.
