You can never have too many flashlights. A good prepper will scatter them around their house, car, you name it. And for a very good reason. You never know when the power is going to go out, a light bulb will blow when your digging in the garage or the zombies have eaten through your power cables.
I highly recommend using LED flashlights as they are very bright and energy efficient. Remember to use alkaline batteries in your flashlights since NiMH batteries will slowly lose their charge over a month or two. NiMH batteries have a place in your preps but just not in flashlights that will sit around all day not being used. If you have a flashlight in your EDC, you could consider NiMH but it depends on how often you use a flashlight in your daily life.
Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a set of 8 cheap LED flashlights and stash them around your house and car. But don’t rely only on these cheap ones, be sure to buy a couple durable and powerful flashlights such as those from Maglite, Four Sevens, Surefire, etc. I keep one of these near my bed for when the power goes out.
Lastly, be sure to add an LED headlamp or two to your preps. I keep one in my bug out bag and one around the house for those situations where I need my hands free. Can you imagine how tough it would be to change a flat tire at night if you didn’t have a flashlight? And even if you use a regular flashlight for changing a tire, how will you get it to point where you need to see? Get the point. Spend the $15 and buy a headlamp and keep it in your car.
Till next time, this is Ranger Mark Signing off.
